Evaluation of WASH, Shelter and Storage StructureÂ
About Project
Secours Islamique France (SIF) is addressing the severe shelter needs in UC Sawro, Sindh, where communities face extreme vulnerability to frequent flash floods and harsh weather. Since 2011, SIF has been active in the region with various emergency response and development projects. The current project, based on lessons learned from previous interventions, aims to construct 300 bamboo shelters to provide a more durable and flood-resistant housing solution. The shelters will feature bamboo frames and elevated platforms to withstand flooding, complemented by straw, mud, and plastic sheeting for weatherproofing.
Local communities will play an active role in the construction process, contributing mud, plastering, and unskilled labor. They will also receive training on disaster risk reduction (DRR) to ensure the sustainability and maintenance of the shelters. The project aims to significantly improve living conditions for vulnerable families, enhancing their resilience against natural hazards and providing safer, more reliable housing.
